Meet The Team

Li earned his Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. His previous research  pioneered CDMS-based quantification of AAVs and spanned epigenetics, viral engineering, and gene therapy. Here at HKUST, he currently focuses on integrating machine learning approaches to accelerate the rational design of viral capsids for better applications.  In his leisure time, Li enjoys cooking, photography, and PC gaming.

Xuejie graduated from Nankai University and completed both her MPhil and PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Kai Liu at Division of Life Sciences, HKUST. Her research focused on the function of microglia in CNS axon regeneration. Building on her previous work, she is now interested in AI-driven AAV engineering to develop cell-type-specific viral variants for gene therapy. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, listening to K-pop, and exploring new places.

Mingyi is a Ph.D. candidate in the Dept. of CBE. He holds a bachelor and a master degree in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems from the Dept of Automation Sciences and Electrical Engineering at Beihang University (BUAA). His research interests include machine learning, bioinformatics, and AAV engineering. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports and listening to J-Pop music.

Jessica is a Ph.D. student in CBE with HKPFS and Belt & Road Scholarships. She is originally from Indonesia, and she earned both her bachelor and MPhil's degree in Chemical Engineering at HKUST. She is currently working on developing CRISPR-based functional genomic screening platform. In her free time, she likes to do sports and play music.

Won Joon is an MPhil student in Bioengineering, with Asian Future Leaders Scholarships (AFLSP) and a bachelor degree in Bioengineering from HKUST. Originally from South Korea, he is interested in developing computational methods for multi-omic data analysis to improve the efficacy of gene therapy vectors. Outside of the lab, he loves trying new food from various cuisines, listening to rock music, going for an unplanned walk, and reading books of all kinds.

Rui is an MPhil candidate in Bioengineering. She earned her bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the South China University of Science and Technology (SCUT) with  the prestigious National Scholarship. Her current research focuses on genome-wide CRISPR screening to investigate microglia functions. Outside the lab, Rui enjoys exploring new places and trying new things.
